The HEAL Africa family grieves the recent loss of Madame Viviane Luhindi Kawanza. On Sunday, March 20, 2016, Madame Viviane died during childbirth, near her home, at Kyeshero Hospital.

Viviane grew up and attended schools in Goma. In 2005, she received her law degree at the University of Goma and began working as a legal defense counsel after she was admitted to the Goma Bar in 2008. In 2014, she began working with HEAL Africa, contributing in various capacities, including her role in the formation and development of the HEAL Africa Legal Clinic. Many of the staff testify to her courage and ability to overcome challenges related to her work as a legal counsel and trainer at HEAL Africa. Vivian made a deep impact in furthering the mission of HEAL Africa, particularly with her dedicated advocacy for women survivors of rape.
