The British Ambassador to the DRC, Alyson King, Visits HEAL Africa Hospital

HEAL Africa Hospital in Goma had the honor of welcoming the British Ambassador to the DRC, Alyson King, on Thursday, December 12, 2024. This symbolic and heartening visit highlighted the joint efforts to improve access to healthcare for populations affected by conflicts in the region.

A visit to the heart of essential hospital services

Upon her arrival, Ambassador Alyson King was warmly welcomed by the medical and administrative staff of the hospital. The staff, proud of their achievements, presented the various care units to her. This guided tour allowed Ms. King to discover several key departments of the facility, including:

  • The Emergency Department
  • The Neonatology Unit
  • The Maternity Ward
  • The Fistula Treatment Center
  • The Integrated Health Center (One-Stop-Center): A holistic support model that offers medical, psychological, and legal support to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

Each stage of the visit was marked by constructive exchanges. The HEAL Africa staff shared the daily challenges they face, as well as the victories achieved through determination and the support of strategic partners.

I was impressed by the commitment and dedication of the HEAL Africa staff. The services they provide are essential for the people of Goma and the entire DRC. This visit reinforces my conviction that equitable access to healthcare is a fundamental right for all,” said Alyson King.

The ambassador praised the central role played by HEAL Africa in the care of the most vulnerable populations in eastern DRC, thereby strengthening community resilience during this period of multiple humanitarian crises.
