Goma School Fund: Fostering the Well-being of Children Displaced by War

In this period marked by the massive displacement of populations due to the war in North Kivu, it is crucial to focus on the well-being of affected children. In the Mugunga neighborhood, where war-displaced people live with host families and in IDP camps, HEAL Africa has established the Goma School Fund to welcome children from the most vulnerable families.

This school aims to provide vulnerable children with the opportunity to resume and continue their studies in a serene environment despite the chaotic circumstances. Currently, 328 children have successfully completed the second trimester of the 2023-2024 school year, demonstrating their diligence and determination to continue their studies despite the challenges they face.

Fostering Child Development

The Goma School Fund offers quality primary education in line with the standards in force in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It stands out for its commitment to its students, active parental support, and collaboration with partners to provide an optimal educational environment.

Moreover, the school provides students with a recreational space including a football field, slides, and swings, as well as collective birthday celebrations to strengthen the sense of community. For their birthday celebrations, children are grouped according to their birth months. A school canteen has also been set up to ensure that students can fully focus on their studies.

The Goma School Fund embodies HEAL Africa’s vision of building a healthy and resilient community in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has endured the ravages of war for over three decades.
