BOARD OF HEAL Africa -USA NAMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Friends of HEAL Africa,

On behalf of the Board of HEAL Africa (USA) I am happy to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director, Calvin (Cal) Bremer.  Cal comes to us with an extensive history of leadership within the not-for-profit world.  He has more than 15 years of executive experience working in over 10 countries around the world.  For the last five years he served as the CEO of Doctors on Call for Service (DOCS).   During his tenure at DOCS he worked in Goma and  met with Jo and Lyn Lusi of HEAL Africa to develop collaboration between the two organizations. His familiarity with the vision for HEAL Africa as articulated by Lyn and Jo is a significant asset to his service with HEAL Africa.  Cal’s experience at DOCS will be valuable as we move toward fuller collaboration of the work of DOCS and HEAL Africa.

Cal clearly has a “heart for Africa.”  His interest in Africa started when a childhood Sunday school teacher, whose daughter was a missionary in Nigeria, encouraged Cal to read whatever he could about Africa. He has been engaged ever since then.  Additionally, Cal married a missionary kid. His wife, Cheryl, lived nine years in Africa while her parents served as missionaries.

Cal’s appointment culminates a search which began following the resignation of Judy Anderson at the end of April.  During the interim Dick Anderson served as Executive Director.   We thank the Anderson’s for their service to HEAL Africa since 2005.  We wish them God’s blessing in their new pursuits.

The phone number and address for the HEAL Africa office in the United States have changed.  The new phone number and address reflect the change in leadership.  However, the mission, vision, and goals of HEAL Africa remain unchanged.

We covet your prayers and support during this leadership transition as together we serve to make a difference in the communities and personal lives of those in eastern Congo.

I want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have prayed, given, encouraged, and supported HEAL Africa in the past.  And I ask for your continued support for Cal and the Board as we move into our next chapter of service.
