A Successful General Surgery Campaign: HEAL Africa Hospital Serving the Population of Goma
Every year, HEAL Africa Hospital welcomes patients with complex pathologies requiring advanced surgical skills and state-of-the-art equipment. However, the management of these cases can sometimes be delayed due to a lack or insufficient medical equipment.
To address this situation, HEAL Africa Hospital collaborates with teams of American surgeons. The most recent team stayed at HEAL Africa, assisting with a general surgery campaign from Monday, March 4th to Wednesday, March 14th, 2024.
This campaign was warmly welcomed by the population of the city of Goma and its surroundings. It provided providential relief to patients facing financial difficulties related to medical care, particularly in the context of poverty resulting from armed conflicts.
Complex cases such as goiters, abdominal masses, and various tumors were successfully managed, bringing considerable relief to beneficiaries who would not have been able to afford these treatments under ordinary circumstances.
In addition to the direct benefits for patients, this campaign also promoted the exchange of experiences and the transfer of knowledge between the team of American surgeons and the local teams of HEAL Africa Hospital. This collaboration further strengthens local medical capacities for the long-term benefit of the community.
