On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, HEAL Africa concluded the 2024 session of Clinical Pastoral Training (CPT) in an atmosphere filled with joy and gratitude. Organized by HEAL Africa’s spiritual ministry department, this training, which began on July 31, 2024, brought together 16 trainee chaplains from the cities of Butembo, Beni, Goma, and Idjwi Island.

The event was marked by emotion as the trainees were honored for completing their training. Their commitment brings comfort and hope to those in suffering. This initiative aims to support doctors, counselors, pastors, and leaders in listening to and accompanying individuals in vulnerable situations.

The main goal of this training is to restore smiles to the sick and their loved ones by bringing the message of Christ closer to people in their fragility. During the session, participants made several visits to hospitals in Goma, including HEAL Africa and CBCA Virunga. These visits allowed them to be aware of the challenges faced by patients while creating valuable connections between their different regions and institutions.

“We are very grateful for the establishment of a cooperation network between Beni, Butembo, and Goma. Thanks to ongoing exchanges, this will improve the quality of support provided by chaplains,” said Reverend Pastor KAMBERE BOLINGO, Chaplain at HEAL Africa.

The 16 trainee chaplains are now ready to go into the field and honor their commitment to those who suffer. They are equipped with practical skills and a deep understanding of the realities experienced by the individuals they accompany.

By emphasizing on holistic support—spiritual, psychological, social, etc.—these chaplains are up to making a significant impact on restoring human dignity and promoting well-being within their communities.
