Fight for Peace: Capoeira Helps Girls Heal From Trauma of War in DRC
When it comes to children, HEAL Africa focuses on the education, health, and protection of children. In the past year, capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian concept that combines martial arts, dance, and music has become increasingly popular among the kids at HEAL Africa. Although it was popularized in Brazil (initially as a form of resistance), it has its roots in Africa.
The concept has been a great tool for building “protection” for children at the HEAL Africa compound. While capoeira is a form of entertainment, it has also allowed for community building and self-regulation, when it comes to reducing violence and aggression.
If you google “capoeira” and “Congo”, you will find that HEAL Africa is featured quite frequently by different news agencies.
